I figured I'd ask for some advice before I get this hardware.

List of parts:

UPDATED LIST

(And this motherboard, pcpartpicker didn't find it for some reason)

Direct links:

AMD Athlon II X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Sapphire Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card

Rosewill Line-M MicroATX Mini Tower Case

Ultra 650W ATX Power Supply

Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit - OEM (64-bit)

MSI A78M-E35 FM2+ / FM2 AMD A78 (Bolton D3) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Anyway, I'm on a tight budget of <$600. I'm really not sure where to go from here, are these parts worth getting? And then from here, what else will I need? I have keyboard/mouse/audio covered already, as well as wifi adapter thingy.

I looked at several different specs sheets and the 430W PSU is borderline. Looks like you could order the one you chose with a $20 rebate but if you are going to spend the $49 anyway, maybe go with a 650W like this, gets good reviews.

Thanks Skyhawk. Any ideas about the rest of the specs?

The rest looks solid, good luck on your build.

With the PSU that Sky suggested, what's the total price of this going to be? My nephew is looking to get a new rig too and I might just build this same one.

It looks like it'll be around $645 ish, but the motherboard is out of stock on Newegg. I found it on Amazon, but it's $10 more than on Newegg.

There's also around $15 of mail rebates, so there's that.

Also, $100 of that is coming from Windows 8.1, so if you've already got a copy, then yeah.

TL;DR - $555 for parts, $100 for Windows OS, $15 of rebates

I just can't get excited about Windows 8. Our PC tech at work has dinked with it and says he didn't see the point unless you are using it on a tablet. We use Dell Vostro all-in-one PCs with touch screen capability and it was too much trouble to tap the tiles.

I've read up on it some and understand it is still Win 7 with the 8 overlay. A lot of users bypass the TIKFAM app and use 8 as a Win7 PC, app launcher wise.

I have a really solid Win7 Ultimate install with a permanent key that I found on a torrent site. You might save that $100 and go that route unless you REALLY want Win8.

Hm. I might just buy Win7 instead, then. I really don't want to torrent it unless absolutely necessary.

Just go with Win 7.

Dude, don't feel bad about pirating Windows. Seriously. Just download it and be done with it.
